A facial is a professional skin care treatment performed by an esthetician. It typically involves a series of steps designed to improve the health and appearance of the skin on the face. Facials are customizable to address various skin concerns and can be tailored to suit individual skin types.
A typical facial can include the following elements: cleansing, exfoliation, steam, extractions, massage, mask, serums, moisturizer, and sunscreen.
Although we specialize in sensitive and sensitized skin, we can also address the following:
Results vary per facial service and the individual receiving the service. Every person’s skin is unique. However, there can be an immediate glow and hydration that can last for up to 5-7 days. To maintain results, we recommend purchasing skincare products from our store and scheduling your next appointment. It’s also important to maintain the health of your skin, not only after a facial service.
When extractions are done the correct way, they are effective in expelling infections and cleaning pores. They can feel uncomfortable, but we can modify the amount of time spent doing extractions. Extractions are only performed with your consent. You have the option to replace extractions with ultrasonic cleansing.
Facials can stimulate the skin to bring impurities to the surface, which can lead to a temporary breakout. Although we use products formulated for sensitive and sensitized skin, it is not uncommon for the skin to purge, bringing up any trapped oils or impurities. It’s a normal part of the skin-clearing process.
If you experience any redness or breakouts, typically it will subside after a few days as the skin settles. Just let me know if you have any concerns, and I’ll guide you on how to care for it.
A few days after your appointment, I will follow-up with you to see if you have any questions or concerns.
We prefer clients to arrive make-up free to maximize your appointment timeframe. If you must come in with make-up, we will happily remove it!
Sweating excessively after treatment can cause inflammation and a heat rash. We recommend waiting at least 24 hours before exercising.
We recommend waiting at least 24 hours before applying makeup to avoid reactions or post-facial breakouts. Since your skin was exfoliated, it has been exposed to the environment. Therefore, it’s best to let your skin breathe.

Sensitive skin is something that you're born with as it is in your genetic makeup. A person with a family history of eczema, rosacea, psoriasis or acne are more likely to have sensitive skin themselves. You may notice that they're also prone to conditions such as asthma and allergies.
Sensitive skin is defined by the tingling, itching, irritation, or burning sensation of the skin. When you feel any of these unpleasant symptoms, it means that the acid mantle (skin's natural barrier) has been compromised or damaged. Our acid mantle is made up of sebum, lipids, sweat, and water, and protects us from irritation and intercellular transepidermal water loss (TEWL).
Below are 6 noticeable symptoms.
There are several causes:
Since having sensitive skin derives from your genetic makeup, you will only be able to manage it since you can't get rid of it completely. We can help you in managing your symptoms!
Avoid products with heavy or potent fragrances, alcohols, physical exfoliants, and sulfates, as these are common culprits in sensitive skin flare-ups.
Avoid over-cleansing and over-exfoliating.
Avoid picking your skin to reduce the chance of creating broken capillaries.
Avoid long hot showers, saunas, sunbathing, and excessive heat overall. Take short cool or lukewarm showers.
A current peel is a technique used to improve the appearance of the skin on the face, neck, or hands. It works by removing the outer layers of the skin so that a new, more vibrant, and regenerated can be achieved. It is designed to treat multiple concerns, such as aging, acne, and pigmentation.
Our peels contain exfoliating solutions such as Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHAs) or Beta Hydroxy Acids (BHAs).
Below are three basic types of chemical peels. At Equal Esthetics, we only use Superficial Peels.
Superficial Peel
Medium-Depth Peel
Deep Peel
Depending on the type of peel, the skin may need to be adequately prepped for a certain period, such as 2-4 weeks before the treatment, with the use of skincare products.
With gloved hands, our licensed professional will cleanse your skin. A mild toner will be applied to remove any oils before gently applying layers of a solution. The solution may sometimes be left on your skin for a certain period before the product is removed. After removing the peel solution, a cream is applied to aid in comfort. For more sensitive skin, a peel wash can be applied until the skin becomes tolerable.
The recovery time after a peel treatment depends on the type of peel. While someone's skin may feel a bit dry, another person may not experience anything other than a smooth, radiant complexion following treatment. Everyone is different. To speed up the healing process and enhance results, purchasing the necessary skincare products from our retail line is important.
Caring for your skin after a peel includes cleansing, moisturizing, and using sunscreen. Since a current peel works by removing the outer layers of the skin, your skin is exposed to the sun and environmental pollutants. Therefore, it is crucial to protect your skin with sunscreen.
The skin must exfoliate on its own; therefore, do not rub or peel off flaky skin. Please avoid extreme sun exposure during the first 7-10 days. Post-Care instructions will be provided at the end of your peel treatment.
Peels options are available in the Classic and Ultimate facials.
Most peels are performed in 20 minutes or less, depending on the size of the area being treated.
The state of your skin after a peel depends on what kind of peel you have. Treatments may cause redness, tightness, flaking, or dryness. Some clients may not experience anything other than a smooth, radiant complexion following treatment. Everyone is different.
Since most results are not permanent because our skin continues to age, peels are typically applied several times over several months or years, depending on your skin goals.
The results of a peel can last months to years, depending on the type of peel. Some peels have a more long-lasting effect than others.
A superficial peel is usually a safe treatment by a qualified and experienced licensed esthetician. During your consultation, we will discuss your skin and medical history to determine if you are a good candidate for a peel. Consultations are required before any peel treatment.
Since the peels we offer are gentle, you are less likely to experience an adverse reaction than with a medium-depth and deep peel performed by a dermatologist or physician.
However, you may still experience the following:
Please inform us if you have a history of keloids (scar tissue overgrowth created at the site of a skin injury and extends past the area of injury) or are prone to unusual scarring.
It would be best to avoid extensive, direct sun exposure for 1-2 weeks post-peel.
You should expect to feel a slight tingling sensation, warmth, and tightening of the skin during a peel treatment. During the treatment, we will gauge your sensitivity to keep you comfortable during the procedure.
AHAs, such as glycolic acid, lactic acid, and other fruit acids, smooth and brighten skin. They also treat fine wrinkles, dryness, uneven skin tone, uneven pigmentation, and acne. AHAs are water-soluble and can penetrate the skin's surface to exfoliate dead cells and promote cell turnover.
BHAs, such as salicylic acid, treat scars and acne-prone skin. Since they control oil production and loosen dead skin cells, they can penetrate deeper into the pores to unclog them and reduce the appearance of blackheads and acne. BHAs are oil-soluble and have anti-inflammatory properties, which can help reduce redness and irritation associated with acne.
